Turn and Face the Strain
Last month celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels appeared on the cover of Women’s Health magazine. In her feature article she stated that while she wants kids, she plans to adopt due to an aversion to pregnancy stemming from her childhood obesity. Her exact quote: “I can’t handle doing that to my body.”
Well, as you can imagine, the mommy blogger universe (as well as others) went nuts and Jillian caught a heap of shit for her comment.
Me personally? I take no offense.
The fact is, pregnancy does NOT ruin your body. I know this. Millions of other moms know this. And I have to believe that as a health and fitness expert, Jillian knows this as well.
BUT…we all have our own neuroses, even Jillian Michaels.
And I would be lying if I said over these past 29 weeks of my pregnancy I didn’t feel a few pangs of self-doubt in regards to my body image. I mean, c’mon. What a difference a year makes:
While I embrace this new body and the journey it has begun for me, I am also comforted by the fact that it is temporary.
Ch-Ch-Changes.
You’re too nice. You obviously have never done any of her videos. Then you’d hate her like the rest of us! Seriously. I’ll give you mine.
Actually, I have several of her videos and I love them. How do you think I fit into that bikini in the first place?
It’s Jillian’s loss. To think that she will never experience the joy of her ob-gyn giving her a handicapped parking pass due to massive weight gain! The post c-section skin flap was worth 12 weeks of rock star parking.
I didn’t take offense, but she sure made me mad. Of course she’s neurotic, she works out for a living. I don’t *want* her to have kids, she will give them body issues! And she probably didn’t mean to say that all mothers have in effect made a mistake by ruining their bodies, but that’s how it sounds when you first hear it.
*shrug*
I’m not mad. Just irritated. I actually just bought a Jillian work out DVD that I love so there ya go 🙂
